::inside my life::

I have been married for nearly a decade to a man I met at a bus stop on my way to jail... and you know, after 10 years of marriage got to say I'm glad introduced myself to him at the bus stop!

We have a 4 year old daughter, Madison who lives in the world of imagination... she mght tell you she is a zebra named Marty, or a mermaid or a fish. But to me she is my "gift from God".

We have a two year old daughter, Eden, who repeats EVERY thing her big sister says or does. She loves accessories and never likes to leave the house without a purse, tutu, tiara, cape or hat.

I run a photography business - Krista Jefferson Photography - that has been a dream come true!

I am on a journey to "be". More like Jesus and less like me.

I'm leaving on a jet plane...

Tomorrow morning Mark and I leave for the Dominican for a week. I am very, very sad and full of guilt (something us moms are blessed with I'm learning) about leaving the girls behind - but so excited at the same time. My parents and sister are splitting the week and coming here to watch them so Madi can still go to school. They're so good to us.

Anyhow, see you in a week!

Come on down! You're the next contestant....

So, Mark's crazy cousin Kim Handy went on Price is Right and won the showcase showdown! I think they said it airs tomorrow (Jan. 9) - she's a riot, should be fun to watch!

Generosity

We have been blessed with family and friends who love to spoil us. So much so that we continually have to clear out space for the new toys (especially after CHristmas!) and clothes. I usually do this behind the girls backs - Madi gets so attached to everything. A toy she hasn't touched in years is suddenly her favorite when faced with me giving it away.

If there is one big lesson I have learned in the last couple months - it's be up front with the kids. I learned this first with drinking water. I use to think "my kids won't drink water". Then whenever they came home from Carolynn's she'd tell me they drank water no problem for her. Huh? So I stopped trying to sneak it in their cups and just told them - you need to drink some water, you can have juice later. And they accepted that answer and rank their water. Wow.

Back to the toys.

So, I said to Madi that I Wanted her to go through her toys and make two piles. One to keep and one to give away to other kids who don't have a lot of toys and would like some. I told her I was going downstairs and would come back up in a minute to check on her.

I could hear her hollering "mom! mom! come and look!"

Oh no. What did she do?

I was shocked that what it was she wanted to show me was that the bigger pile was for toys to give away. She was so proud of herself. There were some toys in there I had a hard time to give away (they're so cute, or fairly new, or in good shape, or expensive, or.....) - but she was generously giving away her best.

I have so much to learn from her. Today I was working on de-cluttering the kitchen (we're making an office upstairs so doing a lot of rearranging). We have three sets of dishes. So, decided I should give at least one set away. But it makes me sad - we picked these out on our wedding registry and can never replace them (because there's no more Eaton's) and even though colours have changed I still feel emotionally attached and even though they're chipped and some are broken and... and.... and....

I need to learn about giving things away joyfully from my girl.

Random

I Wrote a whole long Random post yesterday - and then accidentally deleted it. Whoops! Let's try this again...

A new year is always exciting for me. I hope to take time over the next couple weeks and reflect on goals and dreams.

It's been great having Mark home over the holidays - sad to see him go back to work. At least I have Madi home for another week. Looking forward to a week with her home without any holiday running around. We are having some of her school friends over tomorrow - should be fun!

I didn't do ANY work over the holidays - paying for it now. Looking over photos I need to edit I'm reminded how much I love my  job. I was looking at the weddings I have booked for 2007 and I feel excited about the business today and anxious to get back at it. I have a photo shoot this Sat. for a family so that should help with my camera hunger.

I often go to look at other photographer's sites, or photo learning books or websites - feel overwhelmed and quit. This year I hope to actually force myself to read and learn!

Mark and I booked our vacation today - can't wait to get away and lay on the beach! Feeling very sad about leaving the girls for a week....

Eden has been sick for the last week and is MISERABLE. I think she's had a personality switch and I don't like it. She has taken to two naps a day and if she doesn't get both naps - watch out! I miss my happy girl...

Tonight Mark and I painted my "office" (Eden's old room). It is the smallest room in the world and took us an hour start to finish. Now I have the big task of organizing all my crap. BIG task. Will I ever get organized?

Congrats to some friends I am SOOOOO excited are expecting in July! I know you read my blog - you said I could tell but did you mean via my blog? If so - leave a comment and you can tell yourself. So excited. If anyone has maternity clothes or baby stuff....

I get to se my Monica and her family this weekend. I haven't seen wee Maia since her first birthday in AUgust and TIm I haven't had a good chat with (and any chat with Tim is good) in way too long. Can't wait!

New Year's was good - low key. We were home because a) we're old and b) Eden was sick and c) the kids are up at 7am anyways - why stay out late! Anyhow, Marcie came over and we played games (Mad Gab DVD and Settlers of Catan), watched "Little Miss Sunshine" (again - saw it on Friday with Leanne) and ordered pizza (my new fave from Pizza Pizza - Chili Chicken Broccoli or something like that). Anyhow, came close to midnight and we realized we needed a countdown! We get no channels and haven't hooked up the defribulators from Rich yet to get some. So, Mark pulls out his laptop and is frantically googling something to watch - everything is old countdowns no current ones to watch. I can't believe this so I pull out my laptop too - anyhow, suddenly we realized it's 12:05 and we missed the moment. VEry anti-climatic. So I whipped their butts in Settlers and we were off to bed by 1am. First I provided some evening entertainment by trying to drink a glass of wine. I'm such a wuss - I just can't do it without gagging and making faces - kind of takes away from the moment. We had done a mock countdown at 7:30pm with Madi before she went to bed (Eden had conked out already) and let her have some pop (should have seen her face when she found out she could drink pop!) from wine glasses. She was just beaming and so excited!

Went and saw Charlotte's Web yesterday with the girls. It was a good movie. Eden was crank but the movie was good. Madi loved it. She LOVES going to the theatre. I asked her on the way what movies she has seen in the theatre and she could name every one. I liked that - shows it's still a treat. Asked her what her favourite part was when we left and she said the previews. Nice. As the movie was about to start Madi leaned over to Mark and said "I'm so excited!" then turned to me and said "I love you , mom" and gave us each a cuddle. That made the whole experience worthwhile.
Tomorrow is our first photography get together - and I'm excited! Hope people actually come. People always say they're coming and stuff comes up. It's just a bunch of us who are new in the business getting together to gab and learn form each other. Should be good. Going to do it once a month.

I went and spent the afternoon-evening with Leanne on Friday in Fergus. That was fun. We spent hours at one little shop-cafe and then went back to her place for supper and a movie. I always get a kick out of Cole and Kyra is just so darn cute!
So in less than two weeks I'm going to be putting on a bathing suit and lying on the beach - and I have been eating worse than I ever have in my entire life. Eating anything I can get my hands on constantly. I think I've probably gained all my 20lbs back and now I've given all my old clothes away and will have nothing to wear and... panic!
Trying to figure out what we can afford to look at in the way of house prices - and it is very scary for me to consider my photography as an actual income. Means I have to start taking it all a bit more seriously and keeping track of stuff. Yikes!

have I mentioned I love the show "The Office"? We usually commit to one show a season and my sister tapes it for us (thanks, Marcie). Well, she started taping the Office on the same tape as Grey's and suddenly we're hooked! SO funny.

Trying to figure out what books to bring on our trip. I usually bring a stack of books - and I have one picked out. Any suggestions - something light but meaningful. Or fluffy and fun. Heard the next Traveling Pants book comes out next week - maybe I should bring that. Any other ideas?

School friends

My baby is growing up. Today was Madi's first time having school friends over. She could not have been more excited! I think that might have been part of the reason why she asked to go to bed last night at 5:30pm - she knew that there was "one more sleep" until Elayna and Ryley came over. She woke up and I asked her what she wanted to wear - she almost always says "My team shirt" (she has a couple of sporty looking t-shirts she loves) but today she responded "A ball gown." I dug one of out the dress up box and she put on her high heels and tiara. I said maybe her friends would want to play dress up too - she scolded me saying she wasn't playing dress-up, these were her clothes. I guess new friends deserve the very best in Madi attire. Anyhow, they had a great visit - spent most of the morning just chasing each other all through the house screaming. I was really impressed with the parenting and consistency of Elayna's mom (she brought both kids over). The kids were polite and Ryley was SO good with Eden.

A fun morning! Elayna asked me if I had a camera and if I could take a picture of them. I knew I liked this girl!

Then Ryley said "don't forget Eden!" - another way to get straight to my heart.

I have to say I am entirely enjoying Madi being on school break. And so is she. I don't think she has ever played so well at home. Just happy to be home and hanging out. I'm really going to miss her next week when she goes back.
